The Digital Forge - software + materials + 3D printers
Markforged was founded in Massachusetts in 2013. They continue to re-invent manufacturing with their innovative additive manufacturing technology – printers, materials and their Digital Forge Platform. The team at Additive-X have been working with Markforged since 2015 and can help you get the best out of their technology.
The FX20 is Markforged’s flagship 3D printer and their first capable of printing ULTEM™ 9085 using the same continuous fibre reinforcement that Markforged is known for. It can be used to fabricate high strength parts designed for some of the most demanding industries including Automotive, Aerospace, Oil and Gas.
With a Desktop Series (Mark Two, Onyx Pro, Onyx One), Industrial Series (FX20, X7, X5, X3) and an accessible Metal 3D Printer, Markforged lead the way with industrial-level reliability and consistency and a smart, scalable additive manufacturing platform designed to seamlessly fit into your operation.
Markforged Composite 3D printers really are “industrial-grade” with a proprietary base filament Onyx, made of micro carbon fibre filled nylon which you can reinforce with continuous strands of composite – Continuous Carbon Fibre, High-Temp Fibreglass, Fibreglass, Kevlar and more to create super-strong prototypes and end-use parts.
Print parts, tools and fixtures stronger than metal on the Composite printers, or actually print in metal via the Metal X system. The Metal X prints parts in powdered metal, bound by a plastic matrix enabling parts to have close-cell infill geometry and using a ceramic release layer. Prints are washed (in the Wash 1) and then sintered in a furnace (Sinter 1 or Sinter 2) to remove the plastic binding and ceramic supports so that you are left with a metal part. The Metal X system enables you to manufacture metal parts with geometries and details that would be impossible with subtractive manufacturing processes.
Whichever Markforged printer you choose, it is supplied with Cloud Eiger™ software which delivers a single user-experience, digital part repository and scalable fleet management across the entire range. Offline and enhanced subscription options are also available.
Using the X7’s integrated laser micrometer to scan whilst printing, Blacksmith measures and compares dimensional accuracy data of printed parts to their design files generating a point cloud for review in Eiger™ or for a printed report. Blacksmith gives manufacturers verified known good prints directly from the printbed.
With Multi-Factor authorisation and ISO27001 certification data security is paramount and every engineer and designer who innovates with a Markforged printer expects their data and part files to be secure and confidential.
