Formlabs has announced two new resins for dental professionals this week. The new resins, which are called Dental Model Resin and Dental LT Clear Resin, join Dental SG Resin (launched last April as Formlabs’ first biocompatible resin) in the Formlabs range, to enable dental professionals to 3D print surgical guides, orthodontic models, retainers and aligners rapidly.
Since its launch last year, over 10,000 dental models have been succesfuly 3D printed with Formlabs’ Dental SG Resin. Formlabs’ new resins aim to build on that, with new features and more potential applications.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new resins:
Dental Model Resin
Dental Model Resin has been engineered for crown and bridge models. It is a high-precision and high-accuracy resin that’s designed for models that will have removable dies. Margins and contact points are accurate within +35-microns of a digital model when printed. When printed, models have a smooth, matte surface with lifelike colour reproduction. Imaged above, you can see a quad restoration printed with Dental Model Resin. As you can see, the level of detail is outstanding.
The mechanical properties of Dental Model Resin are as follows:
Dental LT Clear Resin
Dental LT Clear Resin has been engineered for splints, retainers and other orthodontic devices, such as palatal expanders. This is a biocompatible resin that can be used to 3D print end-use models for patients (Dental Model Resin is for reference models only). When printed, Dental LT CLear Resin models are clear and polish to a high transparency, so with it, you can 3D print shelf-worthy orthodontic models. Imaged above, you can see splints printed with Dental LT Clear Resin.
Both the Dental Model Resin and Dental LT Clear Resin will be available for purchase soon. In the meantime, we invite you to check out the official Formlabs website here to find out more about these resins and to register your interest.
3Shape Software Integration
Formlabs has also announced an exciting partnership with 3Shape, a global leader in 3D scanning and CAD/CAM software for dental applications. The new software integration will see 3Shape Implant Studio and Formlabs’ software come together to create the first complete digital solution for dental professionals, to improve workflow and make 3D printing surgical guides, orthodontic models, retainers and aligners simpler and more efficient.
With the Formlabs-3Shape integration, dental practitioners will be able to create guides for surgery by scanning with 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanners. Features include automatic recognition of dental indication and smart orientation.
